This case study started after a thread I saw on Twitter about racial and ethnic disparities in the medical system. After reading countless tweets about individual experiences of women of color, I did a deep dive into the subject. I read a CDC article which said that pregnancy-related deaths per 100,000 live births (the pregnancy-related mortality ratio or PRMR) for black and AI/AN women older than 30 was four to five times as high as it was for white women. As a Black woman these statistics are astonishing, statistics like this is what brought about an app like Health In Her HUE.

Reflection
This was my first ever design project, so I had very little experience with design tools and principles. Looking back with the knowledge i’ve gained, there are a lot of things I would’ve done differently. The main thing that I could’ve done is to design one aspect of the app such as the search filter option instead of redesigning the whole app.
